Copenhagen

It’s December and you’re in Europe and looking for an escape which is festive but not too far away and a little different from the usual Christmas markets. Where do you choose? I’d suggest that you take a hard look at Copenhagen. Under two hours flying time from London gets you to the Danish capital, where fabulous immigration staff will speed you through the airport and public transport will whisk you to your hotel in under an hour from landing. That’s not a bad start.

Copenhagen is synonymous with cycling and sustainability, Scandi chic, design and great food…as well as the world famous Tivoli Gardens. And its true; for the most part, the key sightseeing parts of Copenhagen can be seen on foot or on bike.

Hotel SKT Annae

Situated a block back from Nyhavn Canal and the stunning evening lights and boats, is this fabulous cosy and friendly hotel. Even in the middle of winter, the rooms are cosy and warm. Although some are in need of a bit of a refresh and repaint, the location of this hotel more than makes up for it. There is a lovely bar on the ground floor and open fire with seating area. For nicer days, there is an honesty bar on the roof with spectacular views over the city.

Ideal for solo travellers, couples and families, this is a great hotel with fabulous restaurant.

Tivoli Gardens

An absolute must if you’re in Copenhagen – but check the opening hours / days! If you are fortunate enough to visit in the run up to Christmas, it is a truly magical experience. The lights, the stalls, the mulled wine, the general vibe of festive cheer and of course, the rides! Entrance fees are (in 2023), 155DKK but rides are extra.
